0508A Rhythms of Life for Marimba Solo (Optional with Strings and Percussion)

*The percussion set-up is for a minimum of three players.
If more players are available which is the most elegant solution, then one player should play mallets (Xylophone, Vibraphone and Glockenspiel),
a!though it should be noted rhat in the slower sections, the Vib. and Glock. are often doubled, so that one other player must also play some mallets.
The Percussion part has been performed with 5 players, one percussionist playing drum set only.
This is certainly rhe easiest solution because it requires less movement during the performance from the players. 

Concerning the Strings. The minimum ensemble allows the Marimba soloist more dynamic potential
to play colours of extreme pianissimo quality. A slightly !arger ensemble gives more richness of sound in the tutti passages.
It has been performed with 12 Violine I, although in this case, the soloist must play with more force than is usually required
and the orchestra must play extremely quiet!y at times. An ensemble of 6,5,4,3,2 should satisfy all timbral requirements
whereas an ensemble of 10,8,6,5,4 should probably be the upper limit with respect to the soloist.
